Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) is a high-speed data storage interface designed for high-throughput and fast data access. Intended primarily for data storage centers the SAS interface is backwards compatible with SATA.
This allows the user to mix more expensive lower-capacity SAS drives for applications that require faster data access and higher reliability with lower-cost higher-capacity SATA drives for applications with lower access speed requirements. It has a single 36-pin SFF-8087 male Mini-SAS plug on one end and four 29-pin SFF-8482 female SAS plugs each with an attached 4-pin Molex 8981 female drive power plug on the other end. Features/Specs:
Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) is a high-speed data storage interface designed for high-throughput and fast data access
SATA 3.0 compatible with transfer rates up to 6 Gbps! Designed to replace the SCSI parallel interface with a much faster, more flexible, 6 Gbps serial interface while maintaining the robust nature of the SCSI command set.
The flexibility of SAS facilitates many system-level configurations such as workstations, blade servers, external storage arrays, SAS expanders, host bus adapters (HBAs) and RAID controllers
